If there is one thing we all know to be true, it’s that everyone loves to save money. Any opportunity to save money in any aspect of life is something that 10 out of 10 people will be all over.
This is something that is always top of mind for homeowners. There are so many expenses that come with a home, both one-time expenses and recurring expenses.
It’s those recurring expenses that we all wish we could do without. Now, we can’t help with all of those recurring home costs, but we want to let you know about a solution from the Canadian government that can help you reduce your energy costs.
How can the federal government help you save on energy bills? They can do it with the Canada Greener Homes Grant.
What is the Canada Windows And Doors Grant?
To put it simply, the Canada Greener Homes Grant is a federal program where the government provides homeowners with money to put towards making their home more energy efficient.
The government is offering 700,000 grants of up to $5,000 dollars that any homeowner can use to retrofit their home. They are also offering up to $600 for a home evaluation and advice from experts so you can plan your retrofit.
What does this mean for you? It means that you can receive money towards making your home more energy efficient. So you can put that money towards home insulation, air-sealing, windows and doors replacements, thermostats, heating, renewable energy, and resiliency measures.
If you are looking to upgrade your home with more energy efficient windows and doors, then this grant is for you – and we’re available to help you build a more energy efficient home.
How You Can Use This Grant To Upgrade Your Windows And Doors
If you have ever wanted the government to gift you a brand new, energy efficient entry door or set of windows, now is the time to live out that dream.
In order to be eligible for the Canada Greener Homes Grant, your new products for your home must be ENERGY STAR® certified products.
Products that are ENERGY STAR® certified must meet the following requirements:
- They must contribute to energy savings
- Must deliver features demanded by consumers, while providing increased energy efficiency
- The energy consumption of the products must be verified and measured with testing
- If the product costs more than a less energy efficient product, the purchaser must be able to recover their investment through energy bill savings within a reasonable time
Now that we have covered the ENERGY STAR® certification, let’s take a look at what you have to do to be eligible for reimbursement from this grant:
- The product must be purchased in Canada
- Any online purchases have to be done through an online distributor in Canada
- You must leave the ENERGY STAR labels on the products until after a post-retrofit evaluation.
The products also have to meet the following criteria (this chart is from the Government of Canada website):
